Background of UMT Cyber Games Club(UCG)
UMT Cyber Games Club (UCG) is an official club registered under the supervision of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). Cyber Gaming is an activity classified as an indoor game that does not requires any physical activities. Cyber Gaming is mainly depending on self-mental and agility of movement.
History:
Before Year 2007, majority of students locked themselves up and played games in their own room day and night. They rarely go outside to mix and befriend with other students either from the same course or different courses. These happen to make them to be lacked of social communication and introverted among each others.
In Year 2007, there was a group of students that share a same interest in cyber gaming. They believed that they could make more friends through exchanging idea in cyber gaming. They seek friends or players throughout the whole university to play games together. So, it indirectly gave them a chance to be friend with students from different courses, backgrounds and cultures.
With all of the efforts done, there was the first cyber games unofficially gathering held at the new cafeteria on March of 2008 to exchange skills and knowledge. There were 6 teams, 5 members each team with a total of 30 gamers and 2 organizers attended the gathering. It was a successful gathering because it was attended by students of different races and different place, and showed the integration in the University and Malaysia.
Seem that the potential to promote integration through gaming is practical; the committee members of hostel students’ welfare, Jawatan kuasa Kebajikan dan Penginapan Pelajar (JKPP) had organized a series of cyber games competitions under the event “Fieska 08” on conjunction with the celebration of Malaysia National Day. It was the first official cyber games competition held in UMT and the event included Counter-Strike and DotA. It was welcomed and supported by 20 teams of participants with a total of 100 students. The feedback of the event came out to be very positive and the objectives of the events were achieved.
Consequently, there were a lot of students requested to create an official club specifically in this cyber games field.
This plan was proposed by Goh Jing Long from the course of Maritime Technology with the helped of his friends. Within weeks of hard works done, Dr. Zabidin bin Salleh, Mathematics lecturer from Faculty Sciences and Technology had agreed to become the advisor of the club. The initial club name was University Cyber Games; as it was too general thus rename to UMT Cyber Games (UCG). Finally, the proposal was accepted and proven by the Students Affairs and Alumni Division, UMT (Bahagian Hal Ehwal Pelajar dan Alumni, HEPA) on 17 February 2009. Next, the first Annual Grand Meeting of the club was held on 18 Mac 2009 to construct the club committee member posts through public students’ voting.
Since that the club is freshly introduced, thus there are lots of efforts to be done in order to maintain and promote among the students. With all the co-operation seen, we believed that we are able to build a strong team and unite all Malaysian. Thank You.
